I’ve been driving for about two months now and I’m rediscovering my favorite travel destinations outside of Metro Manila. (I’ve driven to Subic and Tagaytay…and Antipolo.) The traveling experience is surely different when driving as opposed to when I’m riding in the family car or when I’m taking the public bus. I was usually asleep within the first 30 minutes of the ride before and obviously I can’t do that now so I’ve learned to appreciate the journey itself. Naks.
So far, food has been the main motivation behind these road trips. I wonder when we’ll crave for bagnet or fresh strawberries.
First stop: Texas Joe’s House of Ribs. W wanted to take me here because they have really good ribs and an interesting book trading system where you can take a book as long as you leave one as well. Too bad I ordered the beef brisket, and their bookshelf was locked when we got there.
Second stop: Meat Plus Cafe. No-nonsense sulit grub for everyone!
So sulit we had to come back for more before we left Subic.
Third stop: Xtremely Xpresso Cafe. Good breakfast will save the world.
Irrelevant stop: Brickfire Oven-Roasted Steaks And Chops. THIS AIN’T IN SUBIC, THIS IS IN KATIPUNAN AND I’M IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE. You don’t have to go all the way to Subic for cheap x good steaks and ribs. Just head on over to the street behind McDonald’s in Katipunan. Read a good review about it here.
This is what your Php120 can get you.
This is what your Php190 can get you. Get mashed potatoes and extra gravy for a very happy meal.

I miss Subic, especially those scrumptious ribs. Next time, we’ll just order Baby Back Ribs in Texas Joe.
Sounds like a plan!

I know the steaks are great at meat plus, but their pork belly is to die for
I’ll remember that for the next time I’m at Meat Plus.

Hi Ayla, I’m a first-timer here and having fun reading your posts! The colors in your photographs are so nice and vibrant, it does justice to the mouth-watering food. I was in the Philippines 6-7 years ago, and I must say the food scene has improved dramatically!
Also, I love the idea of the book trading system. I hope we have that here in the UAE.
Thank you Nadia! I hope to visit the UAE someday as well, for now I’m starting with our neighboring SEA countries.
