Monks were on the same category as unicorns for me, I see pretty photos of them everywhere yet I know so little about them. Since it was my first time to see monks in the flesh (and in the robe) I took every chance I got to snap a photo of them. It surprised me that some of them were smoking cigarettes and using DSLRs since I’ve always assumed that they’re supposed to live a life of goodness and poverty or something. From what I learned from talking to people in Thailand and Cambodia (and from Googling ‘how do Buddhist monks live’) here are my three wow-I-learned-something-new-about-monks:

Summer’s definitely here and it’s so fakkin hot in Manila these days. This is something that we do at the apartment to ‘perk up’ our drinks and make them extra refreshing.
Slice a lemon and put the slices in a liter of water for a day. After a day, take the lemon slices out and you’ll have lemon-infused water (duh) . Now you may add sugar for a liter of instant lemonade but what we do is we freeze this lemon-infused water on ice trays. When this mixture turns into ice you have an instant ‘perker upper’ (lolz) which you can put in water, iced tea and surprisingly even in soda. I usually put two cubes in a glass of water for an extra refreshing drink.

Hi I’m Ayla, and I’m a Carlos Celdran fan grrrl. I am also very much curious about the Marcos regime. I bought a shirt that has an “I am Marcos” on it because I believe that we shouldn’t exempt the former dictator from commercialization. I also stole my dad’s copy of Marcos’ Revolution From The Center.
I was able to get a barter blogger spot and attend the opening night of Carlos Celdran’s Livin’ La Vida Imelda at SLab/Silverlens last Tuesday.
I want to go all profound and insightful on how this show will make you rethink about where you stand on certain historical events. I want to share some of the trivia that I picked up about the Marcoses which will make me feel slightly smarter and more confident at small talk but I feel like that would spoil certain parts of the show so instead I’m gonna give you reasons on why I think this show rocks.

Went to this awesome one-day only Christmas Bazaar organized by the UP Communication Research Society after my Boss’ class yesterday. Look at the awesome things I found!
Boxer shorts with UP doodles come in one size only and I wasn’t so sure it would fit me. I bought it anyways and told everyone that I’d just use it as a pan tee if di siya kumeri as boxer shorts.
Shirts with UP doodles come in small sizes as well. I passed up on buying them because I can’t turn them into brass years if di sila kumeri as shirts.
An appeal to student entrepreneurs, please be considerate with yer sizes, kaka-hurt ng feelings e. Buti pa ang household items.

First time to see something like this inside a public restroom, do people actually steal these fixtures? Photo snapped inside the girls’ restroom at Shopwise Cubao.
I’m sure this is not a first world problem. *SEGUE* Speaking of first world problems, go take a look at my new favorite site, First World Problems. This will be another visit-this-daily site along with Clients From Hell, PostSecret, FMyLife, My Life Is Average, Texts From Last Night, and Thought Catalog.

Because today will feel like a Monday a.k.a. the first working day (for most of you, not for me, yes the universe is cruel) after a long weekend. Here’s something I found during the Pizza Hut thingamajig event.
I don’t even know what this is called so let’s just call it the this-is-you-this-is-you board. And look, more ‘players’ for the board! (Obviously I got my reference from basketball movies.)

This is our Secretary General’s Cherry Mobile L6, which according to him is his “Senior Citizen’s phone.” A little Googling confirmed that there’s a 20% Senior Citizen Discount on this phone. Our Secretary General’s not yet a Senior Citizen hence he didn’t get a discount for getting this phone but he loves the big ass keypads on them.
What I found awesome about this phone was the S.O.S. button at the back. I didn’t originally know what it was for so I was playing with it. A few minutes later and we were getting calls from our Secretary General’s wife. Apparently it sends an “I need help” of sorts alert to a designated number, pretty neat eh?

Hey it’s a Friday Friday, time for some Mema Monday randomness!
Today, Ric, yes doodle Ric, brought us a pack of turones de casoy. And since it’s my first time to endeavour this delish delicacy, I started peeling off the paper “cover” before Ric told me that you eat that too and it’s made out of the same material as the bread used in communion during mass. Wow, learn something new everyday eh?
P.S. That’s Czarina enjoying the awesome turones de casoy and the awesome light.

I’m cool with roaches but I have a bordering on crazy fear of rats that I can’t even watch Ratatouille. Ang prinsipyo ko sa bagay na ‘to ay, “Yung ipis pag tinapakan mo, patay na, yung daga, tatapakan mo ba?”
Yesterday, I found out that there are dumb roaches and that there are people who actually breed them as food for scorpions. The person who showed me these roaches told me that these are “cultured ipis” because they can’t crawl on walls and they don’t have wings. Wow, learn something new everyday eh?
